महाकुंभ नगर : Mahakumbh Nagar, February 23 : A major revelation has surfaced regarding the presence of fecal coliform bacteria in the sacred waters of the Ganga at Mahakumbh. Padma Shri awardee scientist Dr. Ajay Sonkar conducted extensive research in his laboratory, drawing significant conclusions about the purity of Ganga water.
To demonstrate his findings, he even drank Ganga water in front of lakhs of devotees, proving that it contains no harmful bacteria. According to him, the unique properties of Ganga water, combined with its low temperature, make it unsuitable for bacterial growth.

water temperature drops below 20 degrees Celsius. Throughout the Mahakumbh, the temperature of Ganga water remained between 10 to 15 degrees Celsius, making bacterial survival impossible. The scientist personally tested the water temperature at various ghats in Sangam and confirmed that at such low temperatures, the bacteria cannot multiply or thrive.
According to Dr. Sonkar, fecal coliform bacteria typically grow in temperatures ranging from 35 to 45 degrees Celsius. However, since the temperature of Ganga water during Mahakumbh remained below 15 degrees Celsius, the bacteria could not remain active. His findings suggest that Ganga water, known for its purity for centuries, is scientifically proven to be free from fecal coliform bacteria in such conditions.
He reassured devotees that Ganga water is completely safe for bathing and consumption, further emphasizing its healing properties. Dr. Sonkar stated that the water of the Ganga not only remains pure but also helps in treating various pathogens in the human body.
