Nagpur, July 7 : In a shocking case from Maharashtra’s Nagpur district, a woman and her lover have been arrested for killing her paralyzed husband by smothering him with a pillow. The accused then tried to make it look like he died of natural causes.

The incident happened in the Wadi area of Nagpur. According to police, the 36-year-old woman, identified as Supriya Kumbhare, and her 32-year-old lover, Manoj Thakre, were in a secret relationship for nearly five years. Supriya's husband, Suresh Kumbhare, was paralyzed and bedridden for the last three years. He had suffered a stroke in 2021 and could not move or speak properly.

Police say Supriya was unhappy in her marriage and wanted to be with Manoj. As Suresh was fully dependent on her, she allegedly came up with the plan to kill him. On July 1, Supriya invited Manoj to the house when other family members were away. Around midnight, while Suresh was lying on his bed, Supriya held down his arms and legs while Manoj placed a pillow over his face and smothered him to death.

Once Suresh stopped breathing, the duo quickly arranged his body to make it appear as if he had died in his sleep. They also told neighbors and relatives that he had died due to a medical condition related to his stroke. Initially, the family did not suspect anything and funeral arrangements were made.

However, the story took a turn when Suresh’s brother noticed some suspicious marks on his face and neck during the final rites. He also remembered seeing Manoj leaving the house late at night on the day of Suresh’s death. This raised doubts in his mind. He reported his concerns to the police.

The police then began a detailed investigation. During questioning, Supriya gave conflicting statements. When her phone records and CCTV footage were checked, it showed that Manoj had indeed visited the house at night and left early the next morning. This led to both suspects being taken into custody.

After hours of interrogation, Supriya finally confessed to the crime and admitted her role in helping Manoj kill her husband. She said she was tired of caring for a paralyzed man and wanted to start a new life with her lover. Police say Manoj also confessed and gave details of how the murder was planned and carried out.

Both Supriya and Manoj have been charged with murder and criminal conspiracy under the Indian Penal Code. They are currently in police custody and will be presented in court soon. The police have also recovered the pillow used in the crime as evidence.

This brutal act has shocked the local community. Many are struggling to understand how a wife could betray and kill her sick husband. Police officials said this case is a reminder that not all deaths are what they seem, and careful investigation is always important in suspicious situations.
