मुंबई :
Mumbai, July 7, 2025 : A disturbing video that surfaced online has sparked widespread outrage in Maharashtra, showing Rahil Javed Sheikh, the son of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) state vice president Javed Sheikh, in a drunken and half-naked state, hurling verbal abuse at a woman after a late-night road accident in Mumbai. The incident took place on Vira Desai Road in Andheri West and involved social media influencer Rajshree More, who claims her vehicle was rammed from behind by Rahil’s car.
In the video, Rahil is seen stepping out of his car shirtless, slurring his words, and aggressively threatening More in Marathi. He repeatedly invoked his father's political position, asking her to “take money and go away” while launching a barrage of expletives. The video has gone viral on social media, prompting calls for accountability and legal action.
Soon after the altercation, Rajshree More approached the Amboli police station and filed an official complaint. The Mumbai Police acted promptly, registering an FIR and detaining Rahil for questioning. His vehicle was impounded, and a medical test was conducted to confirm alcohol consumption.
Political reactions were swift. Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) leader Sanjay Nirupam strongly condemned the act, questioning the MNS’s commitment to protecting Marathi women. “Is this what Marathi pride looks like?” he asked in a public statement, slamming Rahil’s behaviour as shameful and unbecoming of someone claiming political lineage.
The BJP also weighed in, with party leaders accusing the MNS of fostering a culture of impunity and arrogance among its ranks. BJP spokespersons called for strict punishment and protection for Rajshree More, who reportedly received threatening phone calls after the video went public.
The incident has once again raised concerns about political entitlement and abuse of power. Civil society groups and women's rights activists are demanding immediate and firm legal action, arguing that political connections should not interfere with justice. Many are using the incident to highlight a growing pattern of misbehaviour among individuals linked to political families, especially when it comes to public conduct and road safety violations.
This controversy comes at a time when tensions in the state are already high over issues of language and identity, particularly following recent aggressive incidents linked to linguistic politics. The Rahil Sheikh episode has added another layer to the debate, with critics pointing out that those championing Marathi pride must also be held to the same moral and legal standards they advocate for others.
The Mumbai Police confirmed that Rahil has been booked for public intoxication, verbal assault, and reckless driving. They added that the investigation is ongoing, and further charges may be filed based on witness statements and video evidence. Rahil is expected to appear in court later this week.
As the public awaits further developments, the spotlight remains firmly on whether the law will be allowed to take its course, or whether political influence will once again interfere with justice in Maharashtra.
