पुणे :
Pune, July 5, 2025 - A recent case that shocked the city of Pune is now taking a surprising direction. A 22-year-old woman, working in the tech industry, had filed a police complaint saying she was raped by a man pretending to be a delivery agent. However, new information from police has revealed that the man was not a delivery worker at all - he was someone the woman already knew.
On July 3, the woman told police that a man came to her flat in the Kondhwa area dressed as a delivery agent. She said he sprayed something on her to make her unconscious, sexually assaulted her, took a selfie on her phone, and left a threatening message saying, “I will come again.”
Her complaint led to a massive investigation. Police formed multiple teams, checked CCTV footage, visited the scene, and examined her phone. Two days later, a man was arrested.
But things changed quickly. After checking all the evidence carefully, police found no signs of forced entry into her flat. Also, the selfie that was found on her phone appeared to be edited. Investigators say the woman and the man already knew each other and had a personal relationship. They now believe that the photo was taken with her consent and later altered.
Police say that the woman may have filed the complaint out of anger or regret after a consensual meeting with the man. It is not yet clear what led to her decision to report it as rape.
The investigation is still ongoing. Police are now looking into whether the woman filed a false complaint and whether any action should be taken against her if that is confirmed. At the same time, they are checking all digital, medical, and forensic evidence to make sure no part of the truth is missed.
This case has sparked debate across the country. Many people are asking important questions: How do we make sure victims feel safe to report real crimes? And how do we protect innocent people if someone makes a false accusation?
Experts say that both things are important. Every claim of rape must be taken seriously, but it must also be investigated with care. False complaints can ruin lives and also make it harder for real survivors to get justice.
Police say they will act based on facts, not emotions. They have registered cases under India’s new criminal laws for rape, intimidation, and more. What happens next will depend on the final reports.
This incident is a reminder that the truth can sometimes be complicated. In sensitive cases like this, fairness and proper investigation are the only way forward for the safety, dignity, and justice of everyone involved
