Darbhanga/Samastipur, 5 July : Two serious incidents happened in Bihar this week. One involves school children falling sick after eating lunch, and the other is about a major drug dealer being caught.

In Darbhanga, around 30 students from a government school got sick after eating their midday meal on Friday. The midday meal is a free lunch given to students in many schools across India. It is supposed to help children stay healthy and focused on their studies. But on this day, something went very wrong.

Shortly after lunch, many children started feeling dizzy and complained of stomach pain and nausea. Some even vomited. Teachers quickly called for help, and the students were rushed to a nearby hospital.

Doctors said the food may have been contaminated possibly spoiled or mixed with something harmful. Most of the children are now stable, but the news has caused panic among parents and the local community.

The district health department has started an investigation. Samples of the food were collected and sent to a lab for testing. Officials said the supplier of the midday meal would be questioned, and strict action will be taken if there is any sign of carelessness.

A local health officer said, “The midday meal scheme is meant to give children healthy food. If someone is putting them at risk, they will be punished.”

Parents are now demanding better checks on food quality in schools. Many are worried about sending their children back to school unless they are sure the food is safe.

While this was happening in Darbhanga, another major event took place in Samastipur, a nearby district.

Police caught a big drug smuggler with a large amount of cannabis (ganja). The man was travelling with bags of illegal drugs when the police stopped his vehicle for a routine check. Officers found several kilos of cannabis hidden inside.

The man has been arrested, and a case has been registered against him. Police believe he is part of a larger group that brings drugs into Bihar and other states. An investigation is now on to find more people involved in the drug trade.

A senior police officer said, “This is a big catch. Drugs are a danger to our youth. We will keep fighting to stop such crimes.”

Both incidents show different but serious problems in the state - unsafe food for children and illegal drugs being moved through towns. While the children are recovering and the drug dealer is in jail, these cases are strong reminders that health and safety need constant attention.

The people of Bihar are hoping that the government will take quick and strong action in both cases so that such things do not happen again.

Safety in schools and safety on the streets should always come first.
