Dehradun, 11 February: In a showcase of exceptional talent and competitive spirit, the Doubles Final at the Tennis event at the National Games saw intense battles. The event highlighted not only the exceptional skills of the players but also the growing popularity of tennis in the region, setting the stage for future stars to emerge.
In the Men's Doubles Final, the formidable duo of Prajwal Dev and Nikki K Poonacha from Karnataka claimed victory over Ishaque Eqbal and Faisal Qamar from SSCB, delivering a commanding performance that ended with a score of 6-3, 6-1. Their duo showed strong communication on the court which proved instrumental in securing the gold medal.
The Women's Doubles Final featured an impressive display from Vaidehee Chaudhari and Zeel Desai of Gujarat, who decisively defeated Pooja Ingale and Akanksha Nitture of Maharashtra with a scoreline of 6-3, 6-2. The duo's relentless drive made them a formidable pair, helping them clinch gold.
As the tournament progressed, the Men's Singles Semifinals brought forth gripping encounters. Dev V Javia of Gujarat triumphed over Tamil Nadu’s Manish Sureshkumar in a tightly contested match, while Ishaque Eqbal staged a remarkable comeback against Karnataka’s Prajwal Dev, winning 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-2.
In the women’s singles, Vaidehee Chaudhari continued her exceptional run, overwhelming Maharashtra’s Akanksha Nitture with a dominant 6-2, 6-0 victory. Vaishnavi Adkar from Maharashtra advanced to the finals after her opponent, Amodini Naik, was forced to retire.
