महाकुंभ नगर : Mahakumbh Nagar, February 7 : The extensive preparations made by the Yogi government for Mahakumbh played a crucial role in preventing a major mishap on Friday. The well-planned fire safety measures in the Mela area proved to be highly effective in managing the situation.
A sudden fire broke out at the camps of Swami Hariharanand and Swami Sukhdevanand in Prayagraj, located on Old GT Road. To prevent fire incidents at Mahakumbh, the Yogi government has implemented extensive safety measures. A total of 50 fire stations and 20 fire posts have been set up across the fairgrounds, along with 4,300 fire hydrants to tackle any emergency effectively.
The government has allocated Rs 66.75 crore specifically for fire safety, in addition to the department’s existing Rs 64.73 crore budget, making a total investment of Rs 131.48 crore in fire safety vehicles and equipment. Over 351 fire trucks and 2,000 trained personnel have been deployed to ensure maximum safety.
Each Akhara's tents have been equipped with fire-fighting equipment. Additionally, multiple mock drills were conducted with NDRF and SDRF before the fair began, playing a crucial role in emergency preparedness and response.

Chief Fire Officer Pramod Sharma informed that the fire in the ISKCON area was caused by a short circuit, burning 20 to 22 tents. Fortunately, there were no casualties. Firefighters acted quickly to prevent the fire from spreading further.
As soon as the incident was reported, Zonal Police Officer of North Jhunsi, Additional SP Sarvesh Kumar Mishra, local police, and the Mela Magistrate arrived at the scene. They assessed the situation and have started investigating the cause of the fire. The administration has urged devotees to remain cautious and report any emergencies to the authorities immediately.
