News Image लखनऊ :  Lucknow, February 20: The Yogi government’s 2025-26 Budget, presented by Finance Minister Suresh Khanna in the state assembly on Thursday, prioritizes infrastructure, industry, and energy, with plans for four new expressways, a defense industrial corridor, and major investments in renewable energy and road maintenance.

The Budget allocates a massive Rs 1,050 crore for these expressways, with the Greenfield Expressway, linking the Agra-Lucknow Expressway to the Ganga Expressway via Farrukhabad and Hardoi, receiving the highest share of Rs 900 crore. The Vindhya Expressway, connecting the Ganga Expressway to Sonbhadra via Prayagraj, Mirzapur, Varanasi, and Chandauli, has been allotted Rs 50 crore.

the Ganga Expressway expansion will extend connectivity from Meerut to Haridwar, while the Bundelkhand-Rewa Expressway will further enhance regional accessibility, each receiving Rs 50 crore for initial development.

Recognizing the potential of Uttar Pradesh as an emerging industrial hub, the government has made a Rs 461 crore provision for the Defense Industrial Corridor, which is being developed alongside the Bundelkhand Expressway. This corridor is expected to attract investments worth Rs 9,500 crore, strengthening India’s defense manufacturing capabilities.

Additionally, the Budget includes allocations for futuristic projects such as an Artificial Intelligence (AI) City in Lucknow, for which Rs 5 crore has been proposed. Furthermore, Rs 3 crore has been set aside for a Technology Translation Research Park aimed at promoting cybersecurity and innovation.

To improve road infrastructure, the Budget proposes Rs 1,450 crore for the construction of bridges, railway over bridges (ROBs), and railway underbridges (RUBs) across the state. In addition, Rs 2,900 crore has been allocated for the widening and strengthening of state highways.

To enhance rural connectivity, Rs 2,700 crore has been allocated for the maintenance of rural roads and culverts, while Rs 1,600 crore has been set aside for building rural bridges to facilitate agricultural marketing.

Furthermore, Rs 1,200 crore has been allocated for the development of bypasses, ring roads, and flyovers at major intersections in urban areas to improve city traffic flow. This substantial investment in road and bridge infrastructure aims to enhance connectivity, support economic growth, and improve transportation efficiency across the state.

The Yogi government has allocated Rs 800 crore for road development in industrial and logistics parks. Under the Mukhyamantri Gram Yojana, Rs 200 crore is earmarked for rural road construction and reconstruction. Additionally, Rs 250 crore has been set aside for improving accident-prone areas, road safety, and beautification.

In a major push toward renewable energy, the Yogi government has announced the establishment of a Pump Storage Hydroelectric Project, with an estimated cost of Rs 3,953 crore. The Budget has made an initial provision of Rs 50 crore for this initiative, which is expected to be completed within four years.

Additionally, the state will develop a 500 MW solar power project in Jalaun as a joint venture between Uttar Pradesh State Electricity Generation Corporation Limited (UPSEGL) and Coal India Limited, with an estimated cost of Rs 2,500 crore. A provision of Rs 150 crore has been made for this project.

In another significant move, a 200 MW solar power plant will be set up in Jhansi's Garautha tehsil in collaboration with NTPC Green Energy Limited and UPSEGL, with a projected cost of Rs 500 crore, for which Rs 80 crore has been earmarked.

The Yogi government will establish a Pump Storage Hydroelectric Project to promote non-conventional energy sources. A budget of Rs 3953 crore has been proposed for this. This project will be completed in four years. A provision of Rs 50 crore is proposed for the project.

Furthermore, a 500 MW solar power project is proposed to be established in district Jalaun as a joint venture by Uttar Pradesh State Electricity Generation Corporation Limited with Coal India Limited. The cost of the project is estimated to be Rs 2500 crore. A provision of Rs 150 crore is proposed for the project.

To support employment generation in the renewable energy sector, the government has also planned to train 3,000 ‘Suryamitras’ under the Solar Energy Policy-2022 in 2025-26 to enhance skill development in the field of solar energy.
