Dehradun, 31st January: Uttarakhand’s Wushu athletes have delivered a standout performance at the 38th National Games, claiming a total of six medals one gold and five bronze. This impressive haul underscores the state’s rising dominance in the sport and the strength of its athletes.
Achom Tapas made history by winning the gold medal in the Wushu Taolu Daoshu event, solidifying his status as one of India’s top competitors. Tapas, who has already amassed multiple golds at the junior level, now takes center stage in senior competition, marking another milestone in his career.
Jyoti Verma added another bronze to Uttarakhand’s tally in Taolu Single Senior – Changquan (Female), continuing the state’s success on the national stage.
The bronze medalists from Uttarakhand also include Visham Kashyap (Wushu Taolu), Neeraj Joshi (Wushu Sanda), Lavish Kumar (Wushu Sanda), and Shubham Chaudhary (Wushu Sanda). Looking to further boost the medal count, Neeraj Joshi, Lavish Kumar, and Shubham Chaudhary will return to the ring today (January 31) with hopes of adding silver to the state’s collection.
Anjana Rani, the coach of the Uttarakhand Wushu team, praised the athletes’ commitment and discipline, attributing their success to both their intense training and the state’s growing sports infrastructure. She expressed confidence in their ability to secure more medals in the days to come.
