Srinagar : Srinagar, 14 September : On Saturday, the Congress party criticized the central government, alleging its failure to curb terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. The party claimed that terrorist activities have resurged in the region, where insurgency had previously been brought under control.
During a press conference at the Congress office in Srinagar, spokesperson Supriya Shrinate highlighted that since Prime Minister Narendra Modi assumed office for his third term, there have been 25 terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir within just 98 days.
"After the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019, the government made grand claims about restoring peace in Jammu and Kashmir. I won't delve into what has happened since 2014 or 2019, but over the last 98 days, we've witnessed 25 terror incidents in J-K. These attacks resulted in the martyrdom of 21 security personnel and left 28 others injured," Shrinate said.
She further added that 15 civilians from Jammu and Kashmir had lost their lives in these attacks, while 47 people were injured. "Who will be held accountable for this? Jammu had previously seen peace, and insurgency had been rooted out. Yet now, terror strikes have resurfaced in areas like Doda, Reasi, and others," she remarked.
Paying tribute to the two soldiers killed in an encounter in Kishtwar on Friday, Shrinate criticized Prime Minister Modi for allegedly failing to publicly acknowledge the sacrifices of security forces since 2019.
"Modi regularly tweets about minor matters, discovers new destinations to visit, and extends birthday wishes to people. Yet, since 2019, he has ceased paying tributes or expressing condolences for the fallen soldiers. Our officers, soldiers, and Jammu and Kashmir police personnel have made the ultimate sacrifice, but Modi has remained silent on these incidents," Shrinate alleged.
She urged the public to review the prime minister's media presence, claiming that he had not addressed any of these attacks. "At the very least, he should honor the supreme sacrifices of our security forces," she added.
Shrinate accused the government of downplaying the situation in Jammu and Kashmir. "You want to project to the world that everything is fine in J-K, but the truth is, it's not. Terrorism, which had once been eradicated from Jammu, has returned with force, and this is a clear failure of your administration," she concluded. |
