Mysuru, August 26, 2025:

A shocking incident in Karnataka has left the nation stunned after a 20-year-old woman, identified as Rakshita (also known as Darshitha), was allegedly killed by her boyfriend, Siddaraju, using an explosive device. Police said the incident occurred on August 23 at a lodge in Bherya village, Saligrama taluk, Mysuru, after an argument between the couple. The accused, 22, has been arrested and is under investigation.

Rakshita, a resident of Gerasanahalli village in Hunsur taluk, had been married for ten years to AP Subhash, a bus driver in Dubai, and had a two-year-old daughter. Siddaraju, who is also a distant relative, had been in a relationship with her for the past seven years. According to police, the relationship had soured over the last five years, and Rakshita was planning to reunite with her husband in Dubai. She had also allegedly lent Siddaraju ₹80,000 and was pressuring him to repay the loan.

Sub-Inspector VS Shashi Kumar said that Rakshita and Siddaraju checked into the lodge at around 2:45 PM. Siddaraju reportedly stepped out to bring food and returned 20 minutes later to find the room locked with no response from inside. When lodge staff opened the room, Rakshita was found in a pool of blood. She had been killed by an explosive device stuffed into her mouth and triggered by Siddaraju.

Police investigations suggest the murder was premeditated. Siddaraju, who worked as a salesman at a hardware shop in Bettadapura, reportedly had knowledge of quarry explosives and used an old charger to assemble the device nearly a month before the crime. A senior officer said Siddaraju attempted to flee after the murder, claiming the death was accidental, but was caught by locals and handed over to the authorities.

The motive appears linked to the deteriorated relationship and financial disputes. Police have registered a case under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Investigators are examining Siddaraju’s connection with explosives and the planning of the murder in advance.

In a related development, the Irikkur police station in Kannur district of Kerala has filed a theft case against Rakshita following a complaint by her mother-in-law, alleging the disappearance of around 30 sovereigns of gold and ₹4 lakh from the family home on August 22, the day Rakshita left for her maternal home. Police have stated that while Rakshita remains a suspect in the theft case, no other arrests have been made.

The case has shocked the Mysuru community and raised concerns about domestic disputes turning violent. Police continue to investigate all aspects of the crime, including financial disputes, premeditation, and any accomplices. Authorities are also examining the woman’s movement prior to the incident and Siddaraju’s access to explosives, emphasizing the need for vigilance in cases involving strained personal relationships.
