Ahmedabad, July 7 : Families of the people who died in the recent Air India plane crash have said that the airline is threatening them. They say Air India told them they will not get any compensation money unless they fill out detailed and confusing forms. Many families are feeling upset and helpless. They have lost their loved ones, and now they feel they are being forced to sign documents they do not understand.

The crash happened on June 12, 2025. Air India Flight AI171 was flying from Ahmedabad to London. Just after takeoff, the plane crashed. Out of 242 people on board, only one survived. Nineteen people on the ground also died. In total, 260 people lost their lives. It is one of the deadliest plane crashes in India.

After the crash, Air India and its parent company, Tata Sons, said that ₹1 crore would be given to the family of each person who died. They also announced a ₹500 crore fund to support all victims and their families. At first, it seemed that help would be provided quickly. But now, many families say the process has become difficult and unfair.

Some families say the airline gave them long forms to fill out. These forms asked for details like the income of the person who died and how much their family depended on them. The families say they were told that if they did not complete these forms, they would not get any money. Some people say airline staff even came to their homes to ask why they had not submitted the documents. Others say they were made to sit in hot, crowded rooms and were told to sign quickly without any legal help or time to read.

A UK-based law firm named Stewarts is helping more than 40 families. They are working with a law firm in India too. A lawyer from Stewarts, Peter Neenan, said that Air India’s actions are wrong. He says that international law allows families to get early compensation without having to give so much personal information. He believes that the airline is trying to reduce the amount of money they may have to pay later.

Air India has denied these claims. The airline says the documents were only meant to confirm who the family members are, so the money goes to the right people. They also say they did not force anyone to fill the form and that people had the option to send it by email or submit it in person. According to the airline, 47 families have already received their money and payments for 55 more are in progress.

Lawyers are now preparing to take legal action against both Air India and Boeing, the company that made the plane. Many people believe that the families should be treated with kindness and fairness. The case is being watched closely and may be taken up by the courts or the Indian government.
