Ahmedabad, 12 June : An Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, carrying 242 people, crashed just minutes after taking off from Ahmedabad airport this afternoon. The airline confirmed in a statement that flight AI 171, operating from Ahmedabad to London, was “involved in an incident.” According to officials, the aircraft crashed into a hostel for doctors at a medical college around 1:30 PM.
High-Level Committee to Investigate Crash-
Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu stated that a high-level committee has been formed to investigate the incident. Meanwhile, sources confirmed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Ahmedabad tomorrow to review the situation.
Amit Shah Visits Hospital, Confirms Extreme Heat from Fuel-
Home Minister Amit Shah visited the hospital where those injured in the crash are being treated. He said, “The Air India plane that crashed in Ahmedabad had over 1 lakh litres of fuel and the temperature was so high that there was no opportunity to save anyone.” At least one passenger has survived the tragedy, and most of the injured are believed to be from the medical college hostel.
Mayday Call Sent Before Crash, Then Silence-
Officials reported that the pilot sent a mayday signal before the crash, after which all communication ceased despite repeated attempts by air traffic controllers.
Emergency Response in Full Action-
Visuals from the site showed thick grey smoke rising from the crash zone. Over two dozen ambulances reached the location, transporting the injured to nearby hospitals. Police have cordoned off the area and diverted traffic. Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu is personally overseeing the situation and has instructed all aviation and emergency response agencies to act promptly.
