अहमदाबाद : Ahmedabad, 11 June : Air India flight headed to London crashed near the Ahmedabad airport on Thursday afternoon, just moments after taking off. The Boeing 787 aircraft was carrying approximately 232 passengers and 10 crew members at the time of the incident.
Shortly after take-off, the pilot sent a mayday call. There was no response after that to repeated calls from the air traffic controller, say reports.
In the final moments, the catastrophic failure to achieve lift happened at a very low altitude of 825 feet. The aircraft was clearly unable to climb, aviation expert Sanjay Lazar told NDTV.

Visuals showed charred wreckage of the plane, thick smoke rising from the site and emergency personnel at work. Some videos also showed injured taken to hospitals.
The crash took place at around 1:17 PM, with thick black smoke observed rising from the Dharpur area near Meghaninagar. Firefighters and emergency services were promptly dispatched to the location.
According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the aircraft issued a MAYDAY call shortly after departure before losing contact with air traffic control. It then crashed outside the airport perimeter. The cause of the crash is yet to be officially determined.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has spoken to Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel about the incident. Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu is expected to arrive at the crash site soon.
