Amid the high-rises and traffic chaos of Bengaluru, a couple has quietly built a home that is now inspiring millions online. Their eco-friendly “breathing house,” which blends mud walls, rainwater harvesting, natural ponds, and age-old traditions, has gone viral after content creator Priyam Saraswat shared a house tour on Instagram. The clip has already crossed 1.3 million views, with people admiring the couple’s conscious lifestyle and sustainable design choices.

The tour begins with Saraswat greeting the couple outside their residence, asking if they truly live in such a unique space. With a smile, they confirm and invite him inside. The woman introduces their home, named Satya Chitt (true consciousness), explaining, “We built this house to enhance our consciousness and live in harmony with nature.”

One of the striking features is the mud walls embedded with colourful glass bottles, which not only recycle waste but also create playful patterns of light indoors. Near the entrance, a traditional hand pump stands tall. The couple explains that it draws rainwater stored through harvesting systems, keeping their water use natural and sustainable.

Inside, Saraswat is shown the dining area, where the family prefers sitting on the floor to eat together. The woman points out a 150-year-old Rajasthani door, repurposed into their home to preserve heritage. She also highlights the natural pond and earthen architecture that help regulate indoor temperatures. “All our walls are breathing,” she says. “We don’t need an air conditioner. The mud balances heat and coolness naturally.”

Her husband further explains that the house was designed with meditation and mindfulness in mind. Layers of mud, earthen pots placed upside down on the roof, and cross-ventilation allow for natural cooling. Even their kitchen reflects a balance between traditional practices and modern-day convenience.

Upstairs, skylights and pulley systems provide ventilation and daylight, reducing dependency on artificial lighting. Minimalism, they explain, is central to their family life. Their children’s rooms are designed to encourage togetherness rather than material excess.

When asked if sustainability requires giving up modern comfort, the couple strongly disagrees. “It’s as modern as any other house. Only the thought has to shift,” the woman says. Her husband adds, “Natural elements require very little maintenance. That’s a myth people have—that eco-friendly homes are difficult to manage.”

The couple lead very different professional lives—she is an entrepreneur, while he works in IT. Yet, they have aligned their lifestyle choices to embrace conscious, sustainable living without compromising on comfort.

The video caption simply read, “Sustainable house in Bengaluru,” but the response was overwhelming. Social media users were quick to praise the initiative. One person commented, “This is the kind of home I dream of building one day.” Another wrote, “The blend of tradition and modern living is so refreshing.” A third added, “Imagine living in a house that literally breathes - it’s inspiring.”

In a city defined by its fast pace, this couple’s home stands as proof that sustainability and serenity can coexist—if we dare to think differently.
