New Delhi, Aug 4 : In a shocking case from Gurugram, Haryana, a 35-year-old woman, Soni Devi, has been arrested along with her lover and three others for the murder of her husband, Vikram. Police say the crime was committed after the woman’s affair with her neighbour was discovered by her daughter.

The victim, Vikram (37), originally from Nawada, Bihar, lived with his wife and daughter in Dundahera village, Gurugram. According to police reports, the chain of events began when Soni Devi’s daughter found an obscene video on the phone of their neighbour, Ravindra, allegedly showing her mother in a compromising situation. The girl informed her father, which led to rising tension in the household.

Before Vikram could act, Soni Devi and Ravindra plotted to kill him. Investigators revealed that the couple had been in an affair for about a year. During that time, Ravindra had recorded an objectionable video of them, which was later discovered by the daughter.

To cover their tracks, Soni Devi initially approached Gurugram police on July 28 and filed a missing person report for her husband. Three days later, on July 31, she made another shocking accusation—claiming Ravindra had raped her in March 2025 while her husband was away and had recorded the assault to blackmail her. She alleged that Ravindra had threatened to release the video and kill Vikram.

However, police soon arrested Ravindra during the investigation. During questioning, Ravindra confessed to the murder and admitted he and Soni Devi were in a relationship. Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Sandeep, a police spokesperson, said the two had been planning the murder after the video was discovered by the daughter.

“They watched several videos on YouTube and searched online to learn how to kill Vikram and dispose of his body,” ASI Sandeep stated.

According to the police, on July 26, Vikram was returning home from work when Ravindra and his associates pulled him into a car. They allegedly strangled him with a rope and then buried his body near Mohammadpur Jharsa village. The burial site had been pre-dug by Ravindra’s uncle, Santarpal (60), who takes care of cattle in the village.

Ravindra led the police to the burial site during interrogation, and Vikram’s body was exhumed. It was confirmed that Soni Devi was in contact with Ravindra throughout the crime, even as she pretended to be unaware of her husband’s fate and filed false reports to mislead the investigation.

Apart from Soni Devi and Ravindra (34), police arrested two others—Manish (19) and Fariyaad (20)—for helping in the murder. All four were taken into custody and remanded for further investigation. Ravindra’s uncle, Santarpal, who assisted in burying the body, was also arrested and placed in police custody.

Soni Devi has since been sent to judicial remand. Police say the investigation is ongoing and more details will emerge as the accused are questioned further.
