News Image Lucknow :  In its ongoing efforts to prevent communicable diseases and provide the highest health care facilities to the general public, the Yogi Government’s ‘Unified Disease Surveillance Portal’ is playing a vital role in controlling mosquito-borne diseases and reducing mortality rate from communicable diseases in Uttar Pradesh.

The ‘Unified Disease Surveillance Portal’, which was launched in the state on May 15, 2023, primarily compiles and consistently updates data of both private and government hospitals, as well as laboratories across all districts. This system has allowed for a precise evaluation of the disease situation and its prevalence within each district. Consequently, it is

- Data of both private and govt hospitals along with laboratories is being monitored through the portal
- Yogi Govt succeeds in reducing mortality rate from mosquito-borne diseases in UP
- UP Govt in action mode to prevent dengue, malaria, chikungunya and encephalitis

the key factor behind the state's improved ability to manage mosquito-borne communicable diseases compared to the previous year.

Furthermore, the state government has managed to maintain a low mortality rate in all mosquito-borne diseases, except for kala jar, up to this point. It's worth highlighting that in line with CM Yogi's vision, the state government is actively overseeing these cases through the Unified Disease Surveillance Portal to combat Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES), Japanese Encephalitis (JE), Kala Jar, Dengue, Chikungunya, and Malaria. The government is diligently monitoring the disease's prevalence in the state and taking swift action to contain outbreaks in affected areas.

*9 months' assessment reveal better results*

The Yogi Government has achieved significant success in substantially reducing the mortality rate caused by mosquito-borne communicable diseases, reveals a comparative study of figures from January 1 to September 7, 2022 and during the corresponding period this year. The mortality rate for all mosquito-borne communicable diseases, except for Kala jar, has been remarkably low.

As per the data presented to CM Yogi, in the year 2023, there were a total of 478 reported cases of Acute Encephalitis Syndrome between January 1 and September 7, with 2 fatalities and a death rate of 0.42 per cent. In comparison during the same period in 2022, there were 496 reported cases of this disease, resulting in 12 deaths and a death rate of 2.42 per cent.

Similarly, the total number of Japanese encephalitis cases between January 1 and September 7, 2023, was 30, with no reported deaths, resulting in a zero death rate. Meanwhile, during the same period in 2022, there were 38 reported cases of Japanese encephalitis, with one fatality, leading to a case fatality rate of 2.63 per cent. In 2023, there were 8 reported cases of Kala Jar between January 1 and September 7, with a death rate of 12.50 per cent, involving 1 death. Conversely, during the same period the previous year, there were 16 reported cases of Kala Jar with no reported deaths, maintaining a zero death rate.

*Death rate remained low*

Between January 1 and September 7, 2023, significant progress has been made in managing outbreaks of dengue, chikungunya, and malaria in the state. In 2023, there were 3,498 reported cases of dengue with 5 fatalities, resulting in a death rate of 0.14% whereas last year, there were 936 reported cases of the disease with 3 deaths and a death rate of 0.32%. Likewise, between January 1 and September 1 in 2023, there were 169 reported cases of dengue, while the previous year reported only 32 cases. Fortunately, there were no fatalities in either year, resulting in a zero death rate.

In 2023, 4,598 cases of malaria were reported between January 1 and September 7, with no deaths. In the previous year, there were 2,149 reported cases, also with no fatalities. It is worth noting that the increase in dengue and malaria cases is being monitored closely, with all data being regularly updated on the Unified Disease Surveillance Portal.

*Continuous monitoring being done through portal, govt on alert against outbreak*

Continuous monitoring is being done through the portal to control the increasing number of cases of mosquito-borne communicable diseases in the state. As per the data till September 7, 403 cases have been reported in Gautam Buddha Nagar, 319 in Ghaziabad, 225 in Kanpur Nagar, 175 in Meerut, 151 in Lucknow and 137 in Moradabad. In addition, an outbreak of dengue disease has been reported in Sambhal and Bulandshahr due to which precautionary measures have been issued in the entire state, including this region.

It is noteworthy that since the implementation of the Unified Disease Surveillance Portal on May 15 this year until July 21, the state government has monitored the incidence of communicable diseases at 30,742 hospitals and laboratories, 1,890 private hospitals and laboratories and a total of 1.8 lakh laboratory tests to ensure its prevention.

The state government has ensured dengue testing facilities in 75 districts under three phases of communicable diseases (first phase: April, second phase: July and third phase: proposed in October). Apart from ensuring the availability of medicines, IV fluids, ORS and adequate beds in hospitals for treatment, the government will keep communicating with all the districts through video conferencing 5 times at the state level, training front-line workers and 320 malaria inspectors and ensuring prevention of communicable diseases by training 134 medical officers on the latest protocols for dengue disease.
