A bizarre case of obsession has come to light in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur district, where a 26-year-old woman has accused her husband of body shaming her and forcing her to work out for hours every day so that she could resemble Bollywood actor Nora Fatehi.

The woman, who got married in March this year, filed a complaint alleging that her husband—a 28-year-old physical education teacher from Meerut—was fixated on the actor’s looks. She claimed that he pressured her to spend at least three hours at the gym daily, threatening to restrict her food intake if she skipped workouts.

“Life Ruined Because You Don’t Look Like Nora Fatehi”

According to her statement, the husband constantly taunted her, saying his life was “ruined” as he could have married someone who looked like Nora Fatehi. The woman said the emotional pressure left her mentally and physically drained.

Despite her family reportedly spending nearly ₹75 lakh on the wedding—including gifting a Mahindra Scorpio, jewellery, and cash—she alleged that her in-laws continued to harass her for dowry.

Forced Abortion Allegation

The woman’s complaint also included serious accusations regarding her pregnancy. She said that two months ago, after learning she was expecting, she shared the news with her mother-in-law, who showed no interest.

Later, she alleged, her husband handed her a pill without explanation. Upon researching online, she discovered it was used for abortions. Shortly after consuming the pill, her health deteriorated, and she was admitted to a hospital, where doctors confirmed she had suffered a miscarriage.

The complainant claimed that in late July, after the incident, her in-laws refused to let her enter their house, leaving her without support.

FIR Registered

Police confirmed that an FIR has been registered against the husband and his parents. Deputy Commissioner of Police Dhawal Jaiswal stated on Wednesday that the case was filed under sections relating to dowry harassment, intentional humiliation, and abortion without consent.

“The investigation is underway, and police are checking all the allegations,” Jaiswal said, adding that both the husband and his family are under scrutiny.

The Larger Issue

The case has sparked discussions about the toxic impact of unrealistic body image expectations and the growing influence of celebrity culture. Mental health experts point out that comparing partners to celebrities often results in emotional abuse and long-term psychological harm.

Women’s rights activists in Uttar Pradesh have also called for stricter enforcement of dowry and domestic violence laws, emphasizing that such cases highlight how material transactions during marriage do little to prevent harassment later.

For now, the woman has sought justice through legal channels, hoping her ordeal will shed light on the dangers of obsession, coercion, and dowry-related harassment. Police said further action would follow once the investigation confirms the sequence of events.
