Lucknow, 10 July : In a deeply disturbing incident that has shocked many across the country, a man in Uttar Pradesh allegedly died by suicide after posting a video on Facebook, saying he could no longer afford his diabetic daughter’s insulin. The man reportedly used a security guard’s licensed firearm at his office to take his own life.

The incident took place in a private office in Uttar Pradesh, where the man worked. Police have confirmed the death and stated that they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the case. His identity has not yet been released to the public out of respect for the family’s privacy.

Before ending his life, the man posted an emotional video on Facebook, in which he cried and explained that he was under severe financial distress. “I can’t even buy my daughter’s insulin,” he said in the video, expressing helplessness and regret. His words have since gone viral, triggering a wave of online grief and anger over the lack of access to affordable healthcare and the mental health crisis tied to poverty.

According to officials, the firearm used belonged to the office security guard. “The man managed to access the weapon and used it in a moment of despair. We are investigating how he was able to get hold of it and whether there were any lapses in protocol,” said a senior police officer.

The man's family, now shattered by the loss, confirmed that he had been struggling for months to make ends meet. His daughter, who suffers from Type 1 diabetes, requires regular insulin injections, an expense the family could no longer consistently manage. “He was a responsible father. He tried everything. But he couldn’t see her suffer anymore,” said a relative, fighting back tears.

The tragedy has sparked fresh conversations around the rising costs of life-saving medicines in India, particularly for chronic illnesses like diabetes. While government programs exist for subsidized or free insulin, many patients fall through the cracks due to poor implementation, lack of awareness, or limited availability.

Mental health experts are also raising concerns about the rising number of suicides linked to financial stress. “We are seeing more and more cases where people feel trapped, especially when they can’t meet the medical needs of their loved ones. It’s a horrifying burden to carry,” said Dr. Renu Sharma, a psychiatrist based in Lucknow.

Activists and concerned citizens are calling for urgent reforms—ranging from better access to essential medicines, to more robust mental health support systems, and policies that prevent such tragedies. “This man’s final plea should not go unheard. It’s not just about insulin. It’s about dignity, and the right to live without fear of failing your loved ones,” wrote one user on social media.

As authorities continue their investigation, one thing is painfully clear: this was not just a personal tragedy, but a systemic failure that demands immediate attention
