Yogi govt empowers UP's girls with self-defence training initiative

News Image Lucknow :  Lucknow, October 14 : Under the 'Mission Shakti' program run by the Yogi government of Uttar Pradesh, the ‘Rani Lakshmi Bai Self-Defence Training’ initiative aims to empower schoolgirls by teaching them self-defence techniques and raising their awareness about personal safety. In the 2024-25 session, 4,90,000 girls have already been trained, while over 32 lakh girls are registered.

It is worth mentioning that in the previous session, 2023-24, the state government registered a total of 24, 08,736 girls for the Rani Lakshmi Bai Self-Defense Training monitoring and evaluation program. This initiative has empowered over 1.6 million girls, setting them on the

- To empower girls in self-defence and boost their self-confidence.

- To develop girls' understanding of laws and provisions related to crimes against women and girls.

- To provide information about various helpline services operated for the safety of women and girls.

- To encourage trained girls to promote awareness of self-defence techniques among their peers.

- To create an environment for the prevention of violence against girls.

- To ensure continuity in the education of girls who are deprived of education due to insecurity.

The main objective of this initiative by the Yogi government is to make girls self-confident and self-reliant, regarding their safety in society. This year, during Navratri, the state government continued this initiative and, under the fifth phase of Mission Shakti, organized various activities and programs from October 3 to October 10 to empower 19,50,216 girls to become self-reliant.

Minister of State for Basic Education (Independent Charge) Sandeep Singh stated, “Through the department, information has been shared this session with 19,50,216 girls and the community regarding children's rights, safety and security, domestic violence, sexual abuse, harassment, safe and unsafe touch, helpline numbers, and the dangers of child marriage.”

However, these efforts are ongoing and will continue in the future. The goal is for all girls to receive self-defence training, empowering them toward self-reliance. To date, 490,000 girls have already benefited from the program, he added. So far, 4,90,000 girls have been trained, he further added.

According to departmental data, on the first day of Navratri, October 3, a total of 6,72,840 girls were made aware and trained. On October 4, the number of girls trained was 1,91,969. Similarly, on October 5, 1,56,472 girls were trained; on October 6, 77,503; on October 7, 2,08,923; on October 8, 1,30,924; on October 9, 4,09,934; and on October 10, 1,10,652 girls were inspired to move towards empowerment and self-reliance.
