US Approves $488 Million F-16 Support Deal Involving Pakistan and Allies

Washington, May 2, 2026 In a move reflecting ongoing global defense cooperation, the United States has approved a $488 million contract focused on sustaining and upgrading F-16 fighter jet systems used by multiple countries, including Pakistan. The agreement highlights Washington’s long-term commitment to maintaining operational readiness among allied air forces rather than supplying new aircraft. The contract, awarded to Northrop Grumman, centers on engineering, maintenance, and technical support for F-16 radar systems, specifically the APG-66 and APG-68. These upgrades are aimed at ensuring the aircraft remain functional, effective, and compatible with modern combat requirements. The program is designed to run over several years, extending support through 2036. Importantly, the deal is not exclusive to Pakistan. It is part of a broader Foreign Military Sales program that includes over 20 countries such as Israel, Turkey, Egypt, and South Korea. Pakistan’s inclusion reflects its existing fleet of F-16 jets, which will benefit from improved maintenance and extended service life under this initiative. The agreement does not involve the sale of new fighter jets or a major expansion of capabilities. Instead, it underscores a strategic focus on sustaining existing defense assets, ensuring that partner nations can continue to operate their aircraft effectively in an evolving security environment.
