India–Japan Summit Set to Deepen Strategic Partnership

New Delhi, June 26, 2026 As India and Japan continue to strengthen their long-standing strategic relationship, the upcoming annual summit in New Delhi is expected to become an important platform for advancing cooperation across economic, technological and regional priorities. The visit reflects the growing importance both countries place on long-term collaboration in a rapidly changing global landscape. Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi will visit India from July 1 to July 3 to participate in the 16th India–Japan Annual Summit at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The visit marks her first official trip to India since assuming office and follows Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Japan during the previous annual summit in 2025. During the summit, both sides are expected to review the progress of bilateral engagement and hold discussions on issues of shared regional and global interest. Areas likely to remain in focus include trade, investment, defence cooperation, supply chains, semiconductor development and strategic coordination in the Indo-Pacific region. The meeting is being viewed as another significant step in expanding the India–Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership. With both nations seeking stronger cooperation across key sectors, the summit is expected to reinforce mutual priorities and shape the direction of future engagement.
