The ferry was carrying 271 passengers and crew when the fire broke out on Sunday morning. Indonesia’s search and rescue agency said 225 people have been rescued so far. The vessel was travelling from Surabaya in East Java province to Makassar in South Sulawesi when it caught fire. Rescue teams are continuing to search for the missing passengers, while authorities have yet to determine the cause of the blaze. The incident has intensified rescue efforts as teams work to account for everyone who was on board. With 41 people still missing, the search operation remains underway as authorities focus on locating survivors and determining how the fire started. Madura Island is situated off the northeastern coast of Java.
