India Joins US-Led ‘Pax Silica’ AI Initiative, Calls It a Historic Step for Global Tech Security

New Delhi | 20 Feb 2026 India on Friday formally joined Pax Silica, the United States’ flagship initiative focused on artificial intelligence and supply chain security, marking a major development in global cooperation on emerging technologies. The declaration was signed on the sidelines of the Global AI Impact Summit in New Delhi and was described by both sides as a “historic milestone”. Pax Silica is an initiative of the US Department of State and aims to build a shared economic security framework among trusted partners. The declaration highlights the need for reliable supply chains as a foundation of mutual economic security and recognises artificial intelligence as a key driver of long-term growth and innovation. According to the US, the declaration reflects a shared vision among participating nations. In its statement, the department said, “We affirm our shared commitment to advance mutual prosperity, technological progress, and economic security for our peoples.” It further noted, “We also recognize that artificial intelligence (AI) represents a transformative force for our long-term prosperity and that trustworthy systems are essential to safeguarding our mutual security and prosperity.” The group of signatories includes Australia, Greece, Israel, Japan, Qatar, South Korea, Singapore, the UAE and the UK, while several others, including Canada and the European Union, are participating without signing.
