Manipur is grappling with severe weather conditions as flash floods and landslides have affected several regions following continuous heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours. Areas including Yaingangpokpi, Santikhongbal, Sabungkhok Khunou in Imphal East, and Kakwa and Sagolband in Imphal West have reported significant inundation, with residential compounds submerged and road access disrupted.
The Indian Express The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier forecasted heavy to very heavy rainfall in the region, which has now led to the rising water levels of major rivers such as the Imphal, Nambul, and Iril. While the water levels have not yet reached the danger mark, authorities are closely monitoring the situation to prevent potential flooding.
In response to the crisis, the state government has mobilized rescue and relief teams to assist affected residents. Emergency services are working to clear blocked roads and provide aid to those stranded due to the landslides. Local authorities are also coordinating with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to ensure swift assistance and mitigate further damage.
As the situation develops, the people of Manipur are urged to stay alert and follow safety guidelines issued by local authorities. The state government continues to assess the impact and is committed to providing support to all affected individuals and communities.
