Triple-Digit Rain Lashes Konkan, IMD Issues Heavy Rain Alert forMaharashtra

Heavy and prolonged rainfall has battered parts of Maharashtra, especially in the Konkan and Madhya Maharashtra regions, with several places recording triple-digit millimetres of rain in just 24 hours. Matheran in Raigad recorded a staggering 270 mm, its second-highest single-day rainfall since 1972 and the highest in seven years. Other parts of Konkan saw Panvel getting 170 mm, Poladpur 160 mm, Mahad and Karjat about 150 mm each, and Mumbai’s Colaba registering approximately 130 mm. Marathwada also saw heavy rainfall with Deoni in Latur receiving 110 mm, while Degloor in Nanded got 100 mm. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued heavy rainfall in Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada till Thursday, with very heavy spells expected on Tuesday. An Orange alert remains in place for many districts due to risks of flooding, landslides in hilly terrain, and waterlogging. Emergency services are on alert. In Beed, Pune, and other local districts, over 100 people had to be rescued from rising waters and road closures. Flash flood warnings were also issued in multiple areas.
