Roy, chairman of the Confident Group, was found dead with a bullet injury at his residence in central Bengaluru on Friday, sending shockwaves through the real estate and business community. The incident took place at his bungalow in Langford Town. Police said the circumstances surrounding his death are still unclear and an investigation is underway. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Akshay Hakay confirmed the incident and said, “C.J. Roy, 57, chairman of the Confident Group, was found with a bullet injury at his bungalow in Langford Town.” Roy was first rushed to a nearby private hospital and later shifted to Narayana Hospital in HSR Layout, where doctors declared him “brought dead.” Police officials said they are examining all possible angles, including whether Roy shot himself. At the same time, teams from the Income Tax Department were conducting searches at several locations linked to the Confident Group. Officers confirmed that these searches were ongoing when the incident occurred, though no direct connection has yet been established. The Confident Group is a well-known real estate developer with projects in Bengaluru and several southern states, including Kerala. The company has faced income tax scrutiny in the past and has been involved in long-running tax disputes. These include cases related to assessments and appeals before the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal and the Karnataka High Court. Roy was a native of Kochi in Kerala and was also active in the Malayalam film industry. He produced films, including the 2012 Mohanlal-starrer “Casanova.” The Confident Group had also been the title sponsor for multiple seasons of the popular television show “Bigg Boss Malayalam,” hosted by Mohanlal. Police said further details will emerge after forensic reports and questioning of people close to the case.
