Puran Kumar, a Dalit officer, reportedly named several top officials in his “final note,” accusing them of caste-based harassment and discrimination. The Chief Minister described the incident as “very tragic” and assured a thorough investigation to deliver justice to the officer’s family. Speaking at a BJP state executive meeting in Panchkula, CM Saini paid tribute to the late officer with a two-minute silence. He emphasized that no matter how influential the alleged culprits might be, they would not be spared if found guilty. “Our government will ensure that justice is delivered if any injustice has been done to the family. A thorough investigation will be conducted, and strict action will be taken against anyone found guilty,” he said. The Chandigarh Police have registered an FIR against Haryana DGP Shatrujeet Singh Kapur and ten others in connection with the abetment of the suicide, following demands from Puran Kumar’s wife, IAS officer Amneet P Kumar, and family. The family had insisted that no autopsy or cremation would take place until the FIR was lodged, citing the serious allegations in the officer’s suicide note. CM Saini recalled that he received the news of the officer’s death while he was in Japan. He immediately reached out to Puran Kumar’s wife to console her and directed officials to assist the family during this difficult time. Amneet Kumar, who serves as Commissioner and Secretary of Haryana’s Department of Foreign Cooperation, was also in Japan as part of the delegation led by the Chief Minister at the time of her husband’s death. The Chief Minister said that he remains in regular contact with the central government to ensure a fair resolution of the matter. He assured that the state government is committed to supporting the family and conducting an impartial and comprehensive investigation. Saini expressed deep sympathy for the officer’s family, stating that the loss was a severe tragedy for both the family and the state. Y Puran Kumar’s death has triggered widespread concern over allegations of harassment and caste discrimination within the police force. The case has attracted attention nationwide, highlighting the need for a safe and supportive environment for officers and employees irrespective of their social background.
