Gujarat Adds 6,632 MW of Green Power in 5 Months

Gujarat has significantly ramped up its renewable energy (RE) capacity, adding 6,632 MW between April and August 2025, nearly matching its total green power addition for the previous fiscal year. By the end of August 2025, the state's total installed RE capacity stood at 39,275.7 MW, up from 25,471.7 MW in March 2024. The major contributors to this surge include solar, wind, and hybrid solar-wind installations. Breakdown: Solar power accounts for 22,806 MW, wind power contributes 14,235 MW, and the rest comes from smaller sources like hydro and bio-power. Government incentives, local manufacturing of solar components, and faster approvals for solar parks have all boosted investment. Experts point out that falling costs and increasing corporate interest in ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) goals have also helped accelerate deployment. Rooftop solar installations have seen strong uptake, especially in semi-urban and rural areas. This rate of addition is pushing Gujarat toward being a national model for clean energy transitions. The state has shown that ambitious renewable targets are feasible when policy, infrastructure, and investments align. Challenges remain, including land acquisition for large parks, grid integration, and ensuring that growth doesn’t leave behind remote areas without reliable power. Still, Gujarat’s performance so far suggests it is moving steadily toward cleaner, more sustainable energy.
