Tea Vendor Killed by Delhi Police Van in Roadside Accident

A tragic incident shook the streets of New Delhi this morning when 54-year-old tea vendor Ganga Ram Tiwari was fatally struck by a Delhi Police PCR van. Tiwari operated a small roadside kiosk near Panchkuian Road, close to the Ramakrishna Ashram Marg metro station, a place he had been stationed for over two decades. He was differently-abled, living and working on site, supporting his family from his stall. According to witnesses, the accident occurred when the van, allegedly driven by Constable Kimish, lost control at an upward ramp, pressing the accelerator instead of the brake. Tiwari was rushed to Lady Hardinge Hospital but was declared dead on arrival. The driver was promptly arrested, and the Assistant Sub-Inspector, Jeevan, has been suspended pending investigation. Locals claim the driver may have been under the influence; though police statements deny intoxication, saying medical tests showed otherwise. The accident has raised concerns about police driving under pressure and safety in narrow lanes, especially when dealing with steep inclines. Community members are calling for stricter oversight and better driver training, as well as compensation for the family of the victim.
