Lucknow, 18 Sep, 2025 09:42 PMDaman, Daman & Diu — September 18, 2025 The Union Territory administration of Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu has announced a walk-in recruitment drive for the post of Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP), offering a unique opportunity for qualified legal professionals to join the UT judicial-legal framework. The recruitment notice, issued today, stipulates that there is one vacant position, to be filled on a contractual basis. Candidates are required to hold at least a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or Master of Laws (LLM) degree from a recognized institution. They must also have practiced for a minimum of three years in a Civil Judge’s or Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court or higher. The age limit has been set: all applicants must be under 50 years of age, although relaxations may apply according to standard government norms. The walk-in interview is scheduled for September 22, 2025, at 11:00 AM. The location of the interview will be as per the UT administration’s legal office in Daman. Salary or consolidated pay for the post has been fixed at ₹18,000 per month. Although modest, officials have stated that this appointment is intended as a means to strengthen the prosecutorial capacity of the UT’s legal system, by ensuring legal representation in criminal and civil matters, reducing workload for existing prosecutors, and improving case resolution speed in the courts. Officials from the law and justice department emphasized the importance of filling the position quickly, citing rising case backlogs, delays in prosecutions, and the need for faster processing of trials, especially for minor offenses. The APP will support the public prosecutor’s office, draft legal documents, assist in court hearings, and represent the government in court where required. Legal practitioners in Daman have welcomed the move, although some expressed concern that only one post will not suffice given the increasing number of cases. They are urging the government to consider more such recruitments in future or consider permanent positions instead of only contractual ones. Some also suggested that the salary must be higher to attract more experienced candidates. Applicants are advised to bring original educational certificates, proof of age, bar council registration, and evidence of three years practice when appearing for the walk-in interview. The UT administration has stated that decisions will be made transparently, and selection will be purely merit-based. This recruitment comes at a time when the UT is under pressure to improve judicial infrastructure, particularly legal staffing, to ensure quicker dispensation of justice. Local bar associations have sometimes pointed out that shortage of public prosecutors causes delays in court proceedings. In summary, today’s notification for the Assistant Public Prosecutor post reflects an effort by the Daman & Diu administration to strengthen its legal framework. Though limited in scale, this initiative is seen as step in the right direction by legal communities. The effectiveness of the effort will depend on how efficiently the walk-in selection process is handled, the quality of selected candidates, and whether further strengthening steps follow.
