The Chandigarh administration on Sunday carried out a significant demolition drive at the Chandigarh Club, targeting and removing a number of unauthorized temporary constructions within the club's premises and along its boundary. The operation, which was conducted peacefully, saw the confiscation of a generator placed outside the premises as part of the enforcement action. The drive was initiated under a detailed order issued by Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav, who had directed a multi-departmental team, including law enforcement, traffic police, and engineering staff, to assist with the operation. A duty magistrate was also present to oversee the entire process, ensuring it was carried out without any incident.
This action by the administration comes after a long-standing issue regarding temporary structures at the club, which had been under judicial review. The administration's position was recently strengthened when a related court case, filed by the club, was dismissed due to a lack of sufficient evidence to support their claims. The demolition drive at the Chandigarh Club is seen as a firm administrative stance on cracking down on illegal and unauthorized constructions, particularly in public spaces. Officials stated that similar issues at the Golf Club had been resolved earlier after the club's management voluntarily demolished a residential hut project. The administration's swift action in the Chandigarh Club case underscores its commitment to upholding regulations and maintaining the city's planned and organized character. This move is part of a broader strategy to ensure public institutions and spaces adhere strictly to city bylaws and environmental norms, preventing any further encroachment or illegal construction that could compromise urban integrity.
