Former Punjab DGP Mohammad Mustafa, Family Booked After Son’s Death; Conflicting Videos Emerge

Chandigarh | October 21, 2025 Police have registered a case against former Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Mohammad Mustafa, his wife and ex-minister Razia Sultana, and other family members following the mysterious death of their son, Akeel Akhtar, who was found dead at his Panchkula residence in August. The case has taken a complex turn after two contradictory videos recorded by Akeel surfaced online — one accusing his family of abuse and conspiracy, and another absolving them of any wrongdoing. In the first 16-minute video, recorded days before his death, 35-year-old Akeel accused his father of having an illicit relationship with his wife and alleged that his mother and sister were part of a plot to kill him or falsely implicate him. He also claimed he was mentally and physically harassed, deprived of his business income, and sent to a rehabilitation centre against his will. The video, which was submitted to police by their neighbour, Shamshuddin Chaudhary, has become central to the ongoing investigation. Chaudhary, who also lodged a formal complaint, claimed Akeel had expressed fear for his life and had confided in him about family tensions. His complaint urged authorities to investigate all possible angles, citing Akeel’s digital records, social media posts, and call data as potential evidence. Police sources said Akeel’s family discovered him unconscious at home and later reported his death as a suspected drug overdose. However, the accusations in the video, coupled with the complaint, have raised suspicions of foul play. In a surprising development, another video emerged later, showing Akeel giving his family a clean chit. In this second video, Akeel appears calm and dismisses his earlier claims, attributing them to schizophrenia. He states that he was mentally unwell and had imagined the allegations he made earlier. “My sister used to give me medicines, but I thought she was poisoning me. I now realise she was just taking care of me,” Akeel says in the video, calling himself “blessed” to have such a family. Yet, the clip takes a darker turn toward the end, as Akeel cryptically adds, “Let’s see what life brings, whether they eventually kill me,” before abruptly ending the recording. Police have registered a case under Sections 103(1) and 61 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita against Mohammad Mustafa, Razia Sultana, their daughter, and daughter-in-law. Officials confirmed that investigations are underway to verify the authenticity and timeline of both videos, as well as to determine whether Akeel’s death resulted from suicide, overdose, or foul play. The case has stirred widespread public interest, given the involvement of a high-profile police officer and former state minister, and the tragic contradictions left behind by their son’s final words. Former Punjab DGP’s Family Booked After Son’s Mysterious Death The death of Akeel Akhtar, son of former Punjab DGP Mohammad Mustafa and ex-minister Razia Sultana, has taken a shocking turn. Police filed a case against the family after Akeel’s pre-recorded video surfaced, accusing them of abuse and plotting his murder. However, another video later emerged where Akeel retracted his claims, saying he was mentally unwell and suffering from schizophrenia. His death, initially reported as an overdose, is now under investigation amid growing public scrutiny and conflicting evidence. Authorities are examining both videos and digital records to uncover the truth behind the disturbing case.
