In a tragic incident, an ambush on an Assam Rifles convoy near Nambol Sabal Leikai in Bishnupur district resulted in the death of two soldiers and injuries to five others. The attack occurred on the evening of September 19, 2025, when a convoy of 33 Assam Rifles personnel was traveling from their base in Patsoi to Nambol. The assailants targeted the convoy on National Highway-2, approximately 8 km from Imphal Airport. The deceased soldiers were identified as Naib Subedar Shyam Gurung from East Khasi Hills, Meghalaya, and Rifleman Ranjit Singh Kashyap from Bastar, Chhattisgarh. The injured personnel were immediately evacuated to a nearby medical facility, and their condition is reported to be stable. The attack has sparked widespread outrage, with locals in Nambol staging sit-in protests demanding justice and enhanced security measures. The protesters have called for swift action against the perpetrators and greater protection for security forces operating in the region. In response to the incident, the Manipur Police have launched an investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack. Security forces have intensified patrols in the area, and additional personnel have been deployed to ensure the safety of civilians and security personnel. The state government has condemned the attack and assured the public of stringent measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
