Lucknow, 12 Dec, 2025 06:44 PMAndhra Pradesh | December 12, 2025 A tragic road accident in Andhra Pradesh’s Alluri Sitharama Raju district claimed nine lives early on Thursday morning when a passenger bus lost control on a sharp turn and plunged into a deep ravine. The accident took place around 5:30 am near Tulasipakalu village, a hilly stretch known for its narrow roads and steep curves. According to officials, the bus was carrying 35 passengers along with two drivers and a cleaner when it veered off the road and rolled down the slope. District Collector Ashok Varma confirmed the casualties and said rescue teams rushed to the location as soon as the information was received. He said seven of the injured passengers were immediately shifted to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Chintur, located about 15 kilometres from the accident spot. Once their condition stabilises, the injured will be moved to a larger hospital in Bhadrachalam for specialised treatment. Preliminary reports suggest that the vehicle failed to negotiate a sharp bend in the forested ghat section, causing the driver to lose control. The bus then skidded off the road and tumbled down the hillside. Local villagers, police personnel and disaster response teams worked together to bring the injured to safety and clear the mangled remains of the bus. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences over the loss of lives. He announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund for the families of those who died in the crash, and ₹50,000 for the injured. In a message shared through the Prime Minister’s Office, he said he was deeply pained by the incident and prayed for the speedy recovery of those undergoing treatment. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu also reacted to the accident with shock. He spoke with senior district officials to ensure that all injured passengers receive the best possible medical care. The Chief Minister instructed rescue teams and administrative departments to work together, move swiftly and provide complete support to those affected. He also directed senior officers to visit the site and oversee relief measures. The accident has once again brought attention to the challenges of driving through the region’s ghat roads, especially in low-light hours. Authorities are examining the condition of the road, the bus and other factors that could have contributed to the accident. Police have started an investigation and will record statements from survivors once they are stable. The bodies of the victims are being identified, and arrangements are being made to hand them over to their families. Government officials assured that all necessary support will be extended to the affected families. As rescue operations continue, the administration has urged travellers to exercise extra caution while passing through the hilly sections of the district, particularly during early morning hours when visibility is low. The district authorities are also reviewing safety measures in the area to prevent similar tragedies in the future. 9 Killed After Bus Falls Into Deep Ravine While Taking Sharp Turn in Andhra Pradesh’s Alluri District A heartbreaking road accident in Andhra Pradesh’s Alluri Sitharama Raju district left nine people dead early this morning.
