UP MLC RESULTS: A WAKE-UP CALL FOR THE BJP AHEAD OF 2027?
YUGVARTA NEWS
Lucknow, 28 Oct, 2026 07:38 PMLucknow : Uttar Pradesh’s latest Legislative Council election results have delivered a significant political message ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections. In the Varanasi Teachers’ constituency, Samajwadi Party candidate Lal Bihari Yadav defeated BJP candidate Dr. Pramod Kumar Mishra. Yadav secured 10,958 first-preference votes against Mishra’s 6,060, giving him a lead of 4,898 votes at that stage of counting. Meanwhile, in the Gorakhpur–Faizabad Teachers’ constituency, BJP candidate Dhruv Kumar Tripathi retained his seat by defeating Independent candidate Rajiv Yadav by just 307 votes, with 14,887 votes against Yadav’s 14,580. These contrasting outcomes in Varanasi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s parliamentary constituency, and Gorakhpur, a key political center associated with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, have added a new dimension to the state’s political narrative.
For the BJP, the message is clear: electoral dominance cannot be taken for granted, even in politically significant regions. A narrow victory in Gorakhpur–Faizabad and a setback in Varanasi should prompt a serious assessment of grassroots engagement, local leadership, voter concerns and coordination between the state and central leadership. For the Samajwadi Party, these results offer an opportunity to build momentum and strengthen its challenge to the BJP ahead of 2027. However, MLC elections involve a distinct electorate and cannot be treated as a direct forecast of Assembly results. The real question is whether the BJP will treat these results as an early warning and intensify its ground-level efforts—or whether the SP can turn these electoral gains into a broader political shift. The road to 2027 is still long, but the political signals deserve attention.
