Lucknow, 10 Oct, 2025 02:43 PMBhopal | October 10, 2025 In one of Madhya Pradesh’s most sensational corruption crackdowns in recent memory, the Lokayukta on Thursday uncovered a staggering fortune during raids on the properties of retired Public Works Department (PWD) Chief Engineer GP Mehra. What began as a routine inquiry into disproportionate assets quickly turned into a tale of excess, complete with luxury cars, mountains of gold, and even tonnes of honey. The anti-corruption team, led by four Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP)-rank officers, conducted simultaneous raids at Mehra’s residences and business locations across Bhopal and Narmadapuram. At his home in Manipuram Colony, officials discovered Rs 8.79 lakh in cash, jewellery valued at around Rs 50 lakh, and fixed deposits worth Rs 56 lakh. A second search at his Opal Regency apartment unearthed a larger cache — Rs 26 lakh in cash, 2.6 kilograms of gold worth over Rs 3 crore, and 5.5 kilograms of silver. However, it was Mehra’s sprawling farmhouse in Saini village, Tehsil Sohagpur, that left officials stunned. The property looked less like farmland and more like a private estate — complete with 17 tonnes of honey, six tractors, a fish pond, a cowshed, a temple, and nearly 40 cottages (some completed, others under construction). Parked amid the greenery were a fleet of luxury vehicles, including a Ford Endeavour, Skoda Slavia, Kia Sonet, and Maruti Ciaz — all registered under the Mehra family’s name. The raid also extended to KT Industries in Govindpura Industrial Area, suspected to be a front for Mehra’s business dealings. Officers found machinery, raw materials, Rs 1.25 lakh in cash, and papers linking the firm to Mehra’s relatives. The Lokayukta team has since sealed the premises and seized numerous documents, insurance policies, and investment papers for forensic examination. By the end of the day, investigators had compiled an inventory that read like royal accounting — Rs 36.04 lakh in cash, 2.649 kilograms of gold, 5.523 kilograms of silver, multiple fixed deposits, high-value insurance schemes, and several properties scattered across two districts. The total valuation is expected to run into several crores once the financial records and property documents are fully assessed. Forensic teams are now tracing Mehra’s financial footprint, including possible benami transactions. Officials suspect the honey production at his farmhouse and the operations of KT Industries were used to mask illegal income sources. The discovery has sparked widespread discussion across Madhya Pradesh, with many describing it as a symbol of unchecked corruption and greed. What started as a quiet probe has now become a story of extravagance so bizarre that it has both investigators and the public questioning just how deep the honey-coated layers of corruption in the state might truly go. Honey, Gold, and Greed Uncovered in Madhya Pradesh Raid A corruption raid in Bhopal turned surreal when officials found luxury cars, gold, and even 17 tonnes of honey at the properties of retired PWD engineer GP Mehra. The Lokayukta’s operation revealed crores in cash, jewellery, silver, and fixed deposits, along with a lavish farmhouse featuring cottages, tractors, and a private fish pond. What began as a routine inquiry into disproportionate assets has become one of Madhya Pradesh’s most shocking corruption cases, exposing the jaw-dropping scale of hidden wealth and opulence behind a government officer’s quiet retirement.
