India’s Hockey Double Gold Creates Asian Games History

New Delhi, October 03, 2026

Indian hockey has produced a landmark achievement at the 2026 Asian Games, with the men’s team retaining its gold medal after a commanding victory in the final. The title defence adds another major milestone to India’s record in the continental competition and underlines the team’s continued success at the Asian level.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the Indian men’s hockey team, noting that the victory marked the first time the side had secured back-to-back Asian Games gold medals. He also pointed out that the triumph took India’s overall tally of men’s hockey gold medals at the Asian Games to five, describing the campaign as an exceptional effort by the players.

The achievement carries additional significance because India’s women’s hockey team also won gold at the 2026 Asian Games. Modi highlighted that this was the first occasion on which both India’s men’s and women’s hockey teams had finished as champions at the same edition of the Games.

“The 2026 Asian Games have been truly special for Indian Hockey!

Congratulations to our Men’s Hockey Team on retaining the Asian Games Gold with a commanding victory in the final. Back-to-back Asian Games Golds for the first time and a fifth Gold overall…it’s been an exceptional campaign by our players.

This triumph becomes even more special as, for the first time, both our Men’s and Women’s Hockey Teams have won Gold at the same Asian Games. It is clear that Indian Hockey stands tall on the Asian stage: PM @narendramodi”

With both national teams ending their campaigns with gold medals, Indian hockey has registered a notable double triumph at the 2026 Asian Games. The men’s successful defence of the title, alongside the women’s gold, has made the Games a significant chapter in India’s continental hockey campaign.
