India national cricket team produced a commanding bowling performance to defeat the New Zealand national cricket team by 96 runs in the final of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, successfully defending their massive total and becoming back-to-back champions. Chasing a daunting target, New Zealand’s innings began on a difficult note as India’s bowlers struck early to keep the pressure firmly on the opposition.

Spinner Axar Patel provided the first breakthrough when Finn Allen attempted an attacking shot but failed to clear the boundary, with Tilak Varma taking a safe catch at deep mid-wicket. Soon after, pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah made an instant impact with his very first delivery, dismissing Rachin Ravindra. Ravindra mistimed a flick that went high in the air, and Ishan Kishan ran a long distance before completing an impressive diving catch.

Axar Patel continued to trouble the New Zealand batters. After conceding a boundary and a six, he responded strongly by bowling Glenn Phillips with a delivery that kept low and struck the stumps. The pressure increased further when Hardik Pandya dismissed Mark Chapman, who chopped the ball back onto his own stumps while attempting a cut shot. The final phase of the innings belonged to Jasprit Bumrah, who delivered a brilliant spell of fast bowling. His accurate dipping yorkers dismantled the lower order, including the dismissal of Jimmy Neesham and Matt Henry, giving him four wickets in the match. The final wicket came when Abhishek Sharma forced a catch that was safely taken by Tilak Varma at long-on, sealing a memorable victory for India.
