India national cricket team produced a spectacular batting display in the final of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, posting a massive total of 255 for five against New Zealand national cricket team. After winning the toss, New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner chose to bowl first, asking Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav and his team to bat. The decision quickly turned challenging as India’s top order launched a powerful attack right from the start.
Openers Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma gave India a dream start with aggressive stroke play. Samson set the tone early by hitting a six to open India’s scoring, while Abhishek soon followed with several boundaries and a big six that boosted the team’s momentum. The pair dominated the Powerplay, scoring 92 runs in the first six overs and bringing up the team’s hundred in less than eight overs, setting a record for the fastest team hundred in a knockout match of the tournament.
Abhishek Sharma returned to form with an impressive half-century off just 18 balls before getting out after scoring 52 runs. His innings ended when Rachin Ravindra forced an edge that was neatly caught by Tim Seifert behind the stumps. Despite the breakthrough, India maintained the aggressive approach as Ishan Kishan came to the crease and kept the scoring rate high, smashing a rapid 54 runs from 25 balls with four sixes.
Sanju Samson continued his remarkable innings and came close to a century, scoring a brilliant 89 runs from 46 balls, including five fours and eight sixes. However, Jimmy Neesham provided a crucial breakthrough for New Zealand, breaking the strong momentum built by Samson and Kishan. Neesham dismissed him with a full toss that was caught at long-on by Daryl Mitchell McConchie.
The late overs saw quick contributions from Hardik Pandya, who made 18 runs off 13 balls, and Shivam Dube, who struck a rapid 26 from just eight balls. Tilak Varma added eight runs while captain Suryakumar Yadav was dismissed without scoring.
With powerful batting performances from the top and middle order, India finished their innings at a huge total of 255 for five wickets, putting New Zealand under tremendous pressure in the high-stakes final.
