The announcement was made to recognise the team’s outstanding performance throughout the tournament and their historic achievement in defending the title on home soil. In an official statement, the board said, “The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a cash reward of INR 131 crore for Team India following their triumphant campaign in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The Board congratulates the players, support staff and selectors once again on this historic achievement and wishes them continued success in the future.” The reward is slightly higher than the ₹125 crore given after India’s previous title win in 2024 under the leadership of Rohit Sharma. Under the captaincy of Suryakumar Yadav, India made history by becoming the first team to successfully defend the T20 World Cup title. With this victory, India also became the first nation to win the tournament three times and the first team to lift the trophy on home ground. The team also received prize money from the International Cricket Council, which awarded the champions USD 2.34 million (around ₹21.5 crore), while runners-up New Zealand national cricket team received USD 1.17 million. India dominated the final against New Zealand with a powerful all-round performance. The team posted a record total of 253 for five in a World T20 final, driven by an explosive innings of 89 runs by Sanju Samson. Later, the bowlers sealed the victory as Jasprit Bumrah delivered a match-winning spell of four wickets for just 14 runs. Samson finished the tournament with 321 runs to be named Player of the Series, while Bumrah earned the Player of the Match award for his brilliant performance in the final.
