New Academic Session to Blend Reading Habits with Digital Discipline in UP Schools

Lucknow | 27 March 2026 With the start of the new academic session in April, secondary schools across Uttar Pradesh are set to introduce a structured initiative aimed at strengthening students’ reading habits and language skills. Morning assemblies will now include the reading of newspaper headlines, where students will not only present key news updates but also learn the meaning and correct usage of difficult words. This move is expected to enhance both language proficiency and general awareness among students in a practical and engaging manner. The initiative follows earlier directives issued by education authorities, making news reading a mandatory part of the academic calendar. Teachers will play a key role in guiding students by explaining complex vocabulary, ensuring proper pronunciation, and helping them understand the context of the news. Officials believe that this regular exposure will gradually build confidence in communication and improve comprehension skills among students. At the same time, schools will enforce a strict ban on students bringing mobile phones to campus. The decision has been taken to curb excessive screen time, which has been linked to issues such as reduced concentration, eye strain, and addiction to online games. Authorities aim to create a more focused academic environment while addressing concerns related to students’ physical and mental well-being. Despite the restrictions on mobile usage, the education system will continue to promote digital literacy in a structured manner. Schools have been instructed to create email IDs for all registered students and encourage the use of educational platforms such as Khan Academy, The Teacher App, and career guidance portals. By combining traditional reading practices with controlled digital exposure, the initiative seeks to strike a balance between foundational learning and modern technological skills.
