Iran Says No Meeting Planned With U.S., Calls for Preparations Before Any Talks

Iran | January 30, 2026 Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Friday, January 30, 2026, that there are currently no plans for meetings between Iran and the United States to restart talks. He stressed that while Iran is open to dialogue, proper preparation must come first before any discussions can take place. “No meeting plan has been set between us and the Americans. We are ready for fair and just negotiations, but preparations are needed, both in terms of the form and subject of the discussions and the venue,” Araghchi said. He made these remarks after holding talks with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in Istanbul, where the issue of possible negotiations was discussed. Araghchi also said Iran is prepared to resume nuclear talks with the United States, but only under fair conditions. He said Tehran is willing to engage in discussions “on an equal footing” and made it clear that Iran will not accept talks where there is pressure or imbalance between the two sides. “If the negotiations are fair and on an equal footing, the Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to participate,” he said. He stressed that Iran would participate only if both sides are treated equally and without pressure. “If the negotiations are fair and on an equal footing, the Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to participate,” Araghchi said. He also repeated Iran’s long-standing position, saying the country has “never sought to obtain nuclear weapons.”
