HPV Vaccination Drive to Protect 17,000 Girls from Cervical Cancer in Hathras

Hathras | 11 March 2026 A major health initiative will soon begin in Hathras, where the health department is preparing to launch a three-month vaccination campaign to protect adolescent girls from Cervical Cancer. Starting April 1, nearly 17,000 girls aged 14 will receive the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine. Officials say the programme is aimed at preventing the spread of the virus that is responsible for a large number of cervical cancer cases among women. The campaign has received approval from the state government, after which the district health department began preparations for the drive. To ensure proper storage and distribution of vaccines, cold chain facilities have been set up at eight government hospitals across the district. Vaccination will be carried out at the district hospital, the district women’s hospital and all community health centres. Health experts explain that HPV infection is one of the main causes of cervical cancer, which affects the uterus and can become life-threatening if not detected in time. In many cases, women do not realize the infection early, allowing the disease to progress. Through this vaccination drive, authorities hope to protect young girls at an early stage and reduce the risk of the disease in the future. To make the campaign successful, ASHA workers have been assigned the task of identifying girls who have completed the age of 14. After registration, the vaccine will be administered by trained healthcare staff, and each girl will be kept in a watch room for about 30 minutes after receiving the dose to ensure immediate medical attention if any discomfort occurs. Officials believe this initiative will play an important role in strengthening preventive healthcare for young girls in the district.
