Hema Malini Picks Deepika for Her Biopic

New Delhi, July 13, 2026 Celebrating an extraordinary milestone of 60 years in Indian cinema, veteran actor and politician Hema Malini reflected on her remarkable journey while sharing who she believes could portray her on screen if a biopic is ever made. Her response highlighted her admiration for Deepika Padukone, whom she considers a talented and suitable choice for the role. During the Diamond Jubilee celebrations in Mumbai, Hema Malini was asked whether Deepika Padukone would be the ideal actor to play her in a biographical film. Replying to the question, she said, **"If she wants to, she can do it. Anyone can do it. Deepika is a beautiful and talented girl."** Hema has expressed her appreciation for Deepika before as well. In 2015, she chose the actress to unveil her biography, *Hema Malini: Beyond the Dream Girl*, written by Ram Kamal Mukherjee. The two also share a cinematic connection, as Deepika's debut film *Om Shanti Om* featured the character Shantipriya, whose look and screen persona drew inspiration from Hema Malini's iconic "Dream Girl" image. Following the celebrations, Hema Malini thanked everyone through X (formerly Twitter) for making the occasion memorable. Sharing pictures from the event, she wrote, **"What a memorable and wonderfully organised event. The celebration of my years in the film industry (Diamond Jubilee) was conducted with such pomp and grandeur that it was truly incredible. The wonderful audience in the auditorium seemed completely immersed in the music of my films, and they stayed until the very end."** Hema Malini made her Bollywood debut with *Sapno Ka Saudagar* in 1968 and went on to establish herself as one of Hindi cinema's most celebrated stars through memorable films including *Seeta Aur Geeta*, *Sholay*, *Dream Girl*, *Satte Pe Satta*, and *Baghban*. Alongside her successful acting career, she is an accomplished Bharatanatyam dancer and currently serves as the Member of Parliament from Mathura, continuing to leave a lasting impact both on and off the screen.
