Lucknow, 10 Feb, 2026 10:45 PMMumbai | 10 Feb 2026 Actor Gurmeet Choudhary has appealed to the film fraternity to support senior actor Rajpal Yadav, who is currently lodged in Tihar Jail in connection with cheque bounce cases linked to a ₹9 crore debt. Rajpal Yadav surrendered before jail authorities on February 6 after the Delhi High Court refused to grant him further relief. Just before surrendering, the actor had spoken emotionally about his severe financial crisis and the lack of support he received during this difficult time. Expressing his concern, Gurmeet Choudhary shared a heartfelt message on X, saying, “It breaks my heart to see a senior, immensely talented artist like Rajpal Yadav ji going through such a painful phase. He has given us countless smiles, laughter, and unforgettable moments. Today, he needs us.” He added that he is ready to help in whatever way possible and urged producers, directors, and fellow actors to come together with compassion, reminding everyone that the film industry is a family that should not abandon its own. Gurmeet’s appeal came shortly after actor Sonu Sood also extended support to Rajpal Yadav. Sonu announced that he would offer Rajpal a role in his upcoming film along with a signing amount to help him financially. Calling Rajpal a gifted actor, Sonu said that financial struggles can affect anyone, regardless of talent, and stressed that such support should be seen as dignity, not charity. The case against Rajpal Yadav stems from a complaint filed by M/s Murali Projects Pvt Ltd over multiple bounced cheques issued by him and his wife. A Delhi court convicted the couple in 2018, sentencing Rajpal to six months in jail, a decision later upheld by a sessions court. Although the Delhi High Court had temporarily suspended the conviction in 2024 to allow a possible settlement, it later noted repeated breaches of commitment to repay the dues. On February 4, the court rejected Rajpal’s final plea for more time, stating that repeated leniency could not be granted, and ordered him to surrender without delay. “Today, He Needs Us”: Gurmeet Choudhary Calls on Film Industry to Support Rajpal Yadav Actor Rajpal Yadav is currently in Tihar Jail after the Delhi High Court asked him to surrender in connection with multiple cheque bounce cases linked to a ₹9 crore debt.
