FWICE Appeals to Film Industry to Support Rajpal Yadav Amid ₹9 Crore Debt Case

Maharashtra | 11 Feb 2026 Actor Rajpal Yadav surrendered to Tihar Jail authorities in Delhi on February 6 after the Delhi High Court refused to grant him relief in a long-pending cheque-bounce case. The actor, known for his comic roles in Bollywood, had been convicted by a Sessions Court in 2019 for failing to repay a loan, and his legal troubles have now escalated due to unpaid dues totaling nearly ₹9 crore. In a show of solidarity, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has urged the entire film and television industry to support Yadav during this "challenging phase of his life." As per a statement issued by the Federation, "All producers, directors, artists, technicians, associations, and well-wishers to extend their moral and financial support to help Rajpal Yadav resolve his liabilities and regain his freedom, dignity, and peace of mind." The FWICE assured complete transparency, noting that contributions could be made directly to Yadav or routed through the Federation. The actor’s troubles date back to 2010 when he took a loan of ₹5 crore from Murali Projects Pvt Ltd to finance his directorial debut, Ata Pata Laapata (2012). The film’s failure triggered repayment issues, resulting in a conviction under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act for issuing bounced cheques. Despite temporary relief granted in June 2024, including a suspension of his sentence after depositing ₹75 lakh, Yadav repeatedly missed repayment deadlines, prompting the High Court to order his surrender. Support for Yadav has already come from actors such as Sonu Sood , Gurmeet Choudhary. The FWICE appeal now seeks to widen the support network, urging industry members to step in to help the actor clear his dues. "Members and well-wishers willing to offer monetary assistance may contribute directly to Shri Rajpal Yadav or route their support through FWICE," the Federation stated, emphasizing that the funds would be consolidated responsibly to assist him in settling his debts at the earliest.
