NCERT Speeds Up Mission to Prepare New Textbooks for Classes 10–12

New Delhi, September 01, 2026 India’s school education system is moving steadily towards a new academic framework, with revised NCERT textbooks for Classes 10 to 12 now being prepared on a mission mode. Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi announced the development on Tuesday, highlighting the broader effort to align school education with changing technologies, future workforce needs and the vision of Viksit Bharat. Addressing the 66th Foundation Day of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), Joshi said that new textbooks for Classes 1 to 9, based on the National Curriculum Framework (NCF), have already been released. “NCERT is playing a crucial role in building a Viksit Bharat and nurturing skilled, capable, and globally responsible human resources through quality education. The new textbooks for classes 1 to 9 are already out, and the textbooks for classes 10 to 12 are being prepared in mission mode,” he said. The Education Minister also underlined the growing influence of artificial intelligence, noting that AI has rapidly entered everyday life over the past two years. “With passing years, AI usage is increasing and even younger groups are using it. Our textbooks and curricula must evolve with these changes and help our young learners to understand, use and engage with AI confidently and also responsibly,” he said. “The new National Education Policy (NEP) talks about all these challenges and requirements. Work should also be done to make parents more alert about this and counsel and monitor children accordingly,” he said. Joshi further highlighted India’s large youth population as a major strength at a time when several countries are facing the challenge of ageing societies. “Several countries are dealing with an ageing population, but India has a significant youth population. Our human resource is not only an asset for India but also for the world. Our human resource ranking is going to move up higher in a few years. Similarly, the Viksit Bharat mission is not only important for India but also for the rest of the world,” he said. The preparation of new textbooks for Classes 10 to 12 reflects a wider effort to make education more responsive to emerging realities. As technology reshapes the future and India’s youth population continues to offer enormous potential, the evolving curriculum is expected to help students prepare for the opportunities and responsibilities of a rapidly changing world.
