Lucknow, 23 Sep, 2025 06:32 PMNew Delhi | September 23, 2025 Decomposed Body Discovered in Southeast Delhi Flat Police in Southeast Delhi’s Jamia Nagar discovered the decomposed body of a 65-year-old woman, Aftab Jehan, late Sunday night. Her 70-year-old husband, Siraz Khan, a retired music teacher from Jamia Millia Islamia, was found in critical condition. The couple’s mentally challenged son, Imran, aged around 48–50, was found sitting outside the bedroom and had been unable to seek help. Authorities were alerted by neighbors following a PCR call around 11:10 pm, triggered after the family’s daughter, who lives in Hong Kong, failed to reach them for several days. Alarm Raised by Daughter from Abroad The family’s daughter had been trying to contact her parents for several days. When she could not reach them, she informed her maternal uncle, who lives nearby. The uncle visited the flat and, noticing no response, alerted the police. On arrival, officers found the apartment door locked from inside and, with the help of neighbors, forcibly entered the flat. Husband in Critical Condition, Son in Shock Inside, police found Aftab Jehan’s body lying on a bed, showing signs of advanced decomposition. Siraz Khan was in a fragile state and was immediately taken to the AIIMS Trauma Centre. His condition is reported as critical but stable. Imran, their son, appeared disoriented and unable to communicate clearly. Authorities noted that he had confined himself to the flat for 3–4 days without food and was unable to call for help during his parents’ illness. Initial Investigation Points to Natural Causes DCP South East Hemant Tiwari stated that the initial investigation did not reveal any external injuries. The couple’s deaths appear to be due to natural causes, though the exact cause will only be confirmed after post-mortem examinations. Imran reportedly stated incoherently that his parents were “sleeping,” highlighting the challenges posed by his mental condition during the crisis. Police Procedures Underway Crime team personnel inspected the scene, and proceedings under Section 176 of the BNSS are ongoing. Imran was taken to the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences (IHBAS) in Shahdara for psychiatric evaluation and later referred to GTB Hospital. Authorities noted that no relatives have come forward to assume his custody, and legal formalities are in progress to ensure his welfare. Community Shock and Concerns Neighbors expressed shock at the tragic circumstances and the prolonged isolation of the family. The incident highlights the vulnerabilities of differently-abled individuals when caregiving support is lacking. Authorities are coordinating with social services to provide necessary care and support for Imran, while completing formal investigations into the deaths of his parents. Next Steps in Investigation Police await the post-mortem reports to determine the exact cause of death for both Aftab Jehan and Siraz Khan. Further measures are being taken to ensure the mental and physical well-being of their son, including temporary care arrangements until a legal guardian or family member is identified.
