Yogi Adityanath Steps In as Varanasi Flood Crisis Intensifies

New Delhi, September 05, 2026 With floodwaters continuing to affect several parts of Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is scheduled to visit the city on Saturday to personally assess the situation and review the relief measures being carried out for affected residents. His visit highlights the government's focus on monitoring the crisis and ensuring that assistance reaches those facing the impact of rising water levels. During his visit, CM Yogi will undertake an aerial survey of the flood-hit areas to evaluate the severity and spread of the flooding across the city. After completing the survey, he is expected to reach Varanasi at around 5:00 p.m., where he will review the relief operations and administrative efforts aimed at supporting people affected by the floods. Earlier on Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Mayor Ashok Tiwari and District Magistrate Satyendra Kumar to review the worsening flood situation. He was briefed on the rescue and relief work being conducted by the district administration and directed officials to ensure that people do not face inconvenience due to the rising water levels and disruptions in different areas of the city. As the Lok Sabha MP from Varanasi, PM Modi has remained in close coordination with the local administration regarding the developments. He also reviewed the facilities available at relief camps and directed that all essential arrangements be provided immediately to those affected. Officials were further instructed to make prompt arrangements if additional relief supplies become necessary and to continue relief operations on a war footing while closely monitoring the flood situation.
